About Dr. Burgess
Mary Simmons Burgess, M.D. is a dedicated and dynamic physician who is board-certified in family medicine. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she moved to Washington, DC to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Howard University.
She returned to Philadelphia where she received her Doctorate in Medicine from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed her internship and residency in family medicine from Chestnut Hill Hospital.
In over two decades of practice, Dr. Burgess has served in various areas of medicine including private practice, college student health, occupational medicine and Veterans’ health care. Among the range of conditions she treats, including hypertension, diabetes and COPD, her special interest is in geriatric care.
She is a compassionate doctor and a strong advocate for patients and their caretakers. Dr. Burgess believes in working collaboratively with patients and their families to help patients reach their health and wellness goals.
Outside of work, Dr. Burgess enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
She is and avid reader of all types of literature but particularly SciFi and fantasy. She also enjoys the theater, music, dancing and outdoor activities, especially hiking and relaxing at the beach.
